029 Twinkling Stars......Sparkle Punch

I completely fell in love with this quilt
when i first saw it.

Christmas was rapidly approaching;
I had quite a lot Christmas fabric.....

a "2nd Mom" to visit; what a perfect combination!!!

......so I went to work to make her a lap quilt.....

She was thrilled with "her first quilt"

I didn't have quite enough of the

snowman fabric for the back,

so added a couple of other fabrics I liked,

and came up with a striped backing.

I worked non stop until it was complete
in order to deliver it on January 1st....

....did I say i fell in love with this quilt????

Oh yeah!!!

I plan to take my time and make
another one with this pattern.

028 Christmas Tree Quilt

A quilt in the pattern of a Christmas Tree.
My DH designed it, and I created it.
He described how he wanted it made,
and I "drew" it on excel using only square blocks.

This is how it began, stacks of little squares.

This was like playing with fabric leg-o blocks??

After making strips of fabric, I needed to visualize the colours together.

Up onto the design wall...overlapping the strips so it would all fit.

027 ~ Merry Christmas for my M-I-L

I finally finished a quilt for my
M-I-L for Christmas this year.
She's in Europe; My DH chose

the fabrics he thought she'd like,

and after I'd made the pinwheels,

he designed the quilt top.

I used the print fabrics and pieced them
together for the binding

I've thought about trying it before,
so I was quite happy how it turned out.

She is thrilled!!!

And I am happy!!

Kitten Holster

I needed a better solution

luckily i found a place that sells "kitten holsters"....

so i created my own

Morris now has his very own holster

and he even helped in the making of it

I have finally completed this baby blanket;

~~it took far too long~~...I dallied far too long on it..

I quilted it with a free-hand wavy stitch which

I've used before and was happy with.

Back in early January, Beth's Blog had a give away, and I was thrilled to be the proud owner of one of her houses. It's taken me this long to put together my very own lap quilt. Seems I've made quilts for various people ~ but somehow have forgotten about one for me... here it is:

This is the winning house, and for the first time I
did an 'on point' square.

What better way to compliment Beth's house,
than with more houses and a few Log Cabins!!

Since it is MY quilt and applique with my name
seemed appropriate! (my DH arranged all the squares in their rightful places)

For the back, I used various fabrics from my stash,
and added one of the spare houses in the middle!

I have been rather slow in my blogging duties,
but that hasn't been the case with
the quilting.
In May we found out that we'd be
making a trip to Manitoba in early October.
Since we have family there
(8 of them children whom we'd not met)
I decided to get busy and make the kids each a quilt!

I really wanted to take a "washline" photo before
I parted with them.

The last stitch was done the evening before
I flew out..talk about pressure??

011 ~ A Birthday Quilt

A friend who is a musician & singer was turning 74, what a better gift - than to receive a music quilt!
Merlin ♥ L-O-V-E-S ♥ Uncle Derry; of course he had to take a big part in being the quality control inspector.

The Front is a random of 4" squares alternating musical fabrics with solids.

While I was doing the quilting, Out of the blue (hm perhaps it was "on the blue") I decided to write Derry's name on one of the squares on the front, and I was happy with how it turned out.

DH and I are constantly giving him a hard time about his "girlfriends" so when I found this 'girls' fabric,

I knew it had to be the backing fabric on Derry's quilt.

Since I've made a few quilts for other people,
my husband says
...so when do I get a quilt?
hm.... his request:
a bunch of little squares, no pattern
"kunterbunt"
(for those of you who can understand German)

when i was fabric gathering - he had a couple of requests,
and especially a certain ladybug fabric that he found and liked.
here is the pile of fabric strips I decided on

of course the ever present helper!
quality control supervisor was right there

I'd hoped to get it finished for fathers day
~no such luck~

here it is, and I really like the mixture of bright colours
I suppose it could be an eye spy quilt for other quilt receivers
they should be able to find "their" fabrics somewhere in this one

I mentioned to my husband that the quilt top had 980 ~ 2" squares.
980?? he says..... how come there's not 1000?
so here's the other 20 on the back

009 ~ Finally..... another finish

I've had a few projects on the go; just haven't finished any of them. It was all about timing - i wanted to finish this one first - because it's for a wedding.... (and I'm late anyway) however, I've got it done.
I've always admired the window box pattern and wanted a project to use it on as well as keeping it a scrappy look.....
here it is...

it took me days to figure out what to do for the back.... until my DH suggested large squares; and voila my dilemma was over...

the binding is of the same fabric that the squares in the backing are from, i really like how it turned out.
Pens etc..... so "my thing"....

they turned out ok.

and some chair pads.... as you can see they've been tested for durability.

008 ~ Pinwheel......

The pinwheel quilt has been finished for a while;
I've been a bit remiss in the blogging job.

For me, it's all about learning..... and although I now
have a frame(which makes quilting so much easier on
my neck and shoulders)I found that there's a whole
new technique -per se- with putting the
three layers together.
As you can see with the backing, the center
piece isn't quite in the center.

I really love this daisy fabric; it makes
a neat binding!

My husband chose and bought 2 meters of this fabric....
Used 1 1/2 meters as packing;
then used the other 1/2 a meter as gift wrap
to wrap one of my gifts....

How can you beat that?

I fell in love with this pattern here a while ago and had plans to make use of it the moment I saw it. The day we took pictures it was really windy so we had trouble getting a straight photo.

The bloggers world (and wealth) of information amazes me. I had made binding before and hand sewing just isn't something meant for me.....sew.... I sew my binding by machine, and Rita is fantastic with a machine sewn binding tutorial, which gave me another way of putting it together.

Matilda is always ready to help with the puzzle.

I tried something different, with stippling on the main body of the quilt, and separate stippling on the border.... not a good idea....Ready to bind; the quilting still presents a challenge for me......
but that's how we learn??

This quilt was made for a special young man, and was made from my heart, especially for, and with him in mind. Rather than an artist 'patchwork' creation, it's meant to be a story book (of sorts) with pictures to look at.
It was my first twin sized quilt, so a lot easier to manage than the
double or queen, yet big enough to be a challenge.
Here I had the opportunity to really practice stippling.
(I can understand why they say practice, practice, practice)

Race cars, Horses, Cats, Tractors, ships, Police cars....
and his name appliqued on the back.
another learning experience... but that's part of my fun!!

Then I got serious??

This one started out to be a double quilt until I got the border on, (I need to get the measurements & sizes figured out), AND quilted it and then ...... the size was gigantic!! So I did an unmentionable; I resized it ~ best not to ask how I did that.

Merlin LOVES domestic duties....
he usually "helps" with laundry
(he's addicted to bleach)
as you can see...he's been helping with the quilting.

the backing fabric is a leaves & acorns print,
which I thought was a perfect addition...
considering who this quilt was being made for.
I'm happy with the binding, which I did completely with the sewing machine.

Again, my quilting is still rather amateurish
......hm.... I'm wondering how many quilts it will take
before I get it looking better??

004 ~ Fence Rails ~ Elmo......

I discovered the world of blog; heard about sandwiches and stipplings. Curiosity made me take a day course to learn how to put together a sandwich and how to stipple.

In the meantime I bought a new sewing machine a Juki TL-98Q. I love this machine. It goes fast!!! I had to learn how to sew all over again.

So to put learning into practice, using the sandwich technique:

I made another baby quilt, in an Elmo theme. The top is fence rails pattern, Warm & Natural Cotton Batting, and the backing with a bit of Elmo piecing. The stippling...well it needs more practice too!! AND my first ever binding.... this is exciting!!

I decided to try making a label, using a fabric pen; I didn't like it at all. (note to self....must find a better label)

All in all.... for "another" first... it turned out okay.

003 ~ Scrappy Trip Around the World......

Then 2009 arrived, and I decided to get serious, so I tackled a Queen Sized bedspread.

I really like the 'scrappy' look of patchworks, so made a scrappy trip around the world.

By this time I had discovered the Land-of-Blogs and learned about the "sandwich" and of the quilting techniques. Once the top was done, I toyed with making the sandwich....... several headaches later, I opted for going back to the pillowcase style.
A front, a back, no filling.

The quilting is vary amateurish(and not so straight with the lines), but considering the little Kenmore sewing machine I had to work with, I was happy with how it turned out.

Blunders and all.... I am quite proud of this huge project.
