029 My First Commissioned Quilt

A Baby Quilt for a baby due January/February. 

No specific instructions, just that it is for a Boy.

Scotty dog blocks. 

Backing fabric that happened to be in my stash!

 A bit of pebble quilting. It uses bit more thread, but I like the look of it.

Old Meets New ~ 2013

My Mom has been gone 18 years now.  

As I was cleaning out more 'gotta-keep-it' bins, I discovered negatives. 

Amongst them I found a couple of quilt pictures. 

A perfect way to start this year's blogging;  showing a couple of her creations. 

She only patched from scraps, which is probably why I lean towards scrappy quilts; 

I suppose it's also out of respect for who she was. 

I still have one unfinished patchwork top of hers that I will (eventually) complete with batting and backing - it will be a "combination quilt" - old meets new. 

Unlike the picture I've included here ^^ which as far as I can see are made from (yikes) fortrel, the quilt top I have is made of cotton or cotton blend fabrics.  :)

I liked this striking quilt, but I wanted a rectangular quilt....

I made HRTs (half rectangle triangles).

A bit of a learning curve.

Juki Cleaning

Cleaning my Juki!

Who knew you could take the bottom off,

simply by removing the screws?

  I vacuumed and brushed out the whole underside; put the bottom back on...and done!

a "2nd Mom" who we are going to celebrate Christmas with!

A Pieced Backing

For our Christmas, I made a tree quilt. 

DH designed it; I created it. 

using only 2" squares.

This is how it began,  stacks of little squares.

Puzzling??

 

I needed to visualize the colours together.

A quilt for my 
M-I-L for Christmas.  

 

For the binding, I used some of the floral fabrics

to make a 'scrappy' binding.

She is thrilled!!!

And I am happy!!
