047 ~ An 80th for my M-I-L.

February 2017,
DH was going for a trip to Europe for his Mom's 80th.
It was a perfect opportunity to make a few things to send along with him.

The back, but with this lighting outside, it becomes rather see through,
you can't see the backing all that well.

A close up of the back, and the binding.

046 ~ Gotta Snuggle Quilt.

Anyway, way back in June 2015 (while we were planning our big move across the country)
my s-i-l & I were chatting. She mentioned the quilts I'd made for them
and how they enjoyed them. She said, it's like we just need a small quilt for the couch,
you know like "our not feeling too good, gotta snuggle blanket"!!

With pen in hand I got her to repeat that. And of that,
a quick small quilt was made! But, we were in the midst of preparing for
a huge move, and taking photos of quilting details, wasn't upper most on my mind.
So, this is the only photo I took of it during the creation.

A bit of Kaffe Fassett fabrics as letters, on solid cottons.

050 ~ Happy 150th Birthday Canada!

 I think I was in grade 2 when Canada had its 100th birthday;
I still have the medallion (we all received in school) with the logo from that celebration.
Here we are, 50 years later and I thought it should be fitting to make something
as a tribute to having lived in this beautiful country for all these years.
For me, a quilt was the perfect thing to make.

I made this one with the QAYG method - my go to technique.
The 10 flags represent the 10 provinces Canada had when I was born,
also the number of kids in my family.

The fabric for the backing actually found me, and was fitting.

I machine quilted the blocks with echo quilting around the leaves,
organic straight lines on the red sides, and did pebbles on the leaves.
I like how it turned out.

The label, well it needs no explanation.

I do love our clothes line for displaying quilts (well ok, and for drying clothes)
- we have so much natural greenery in our back yard.

And about that medallion I received 50 years ago...
this was the logo for that centennial celebration......
wouldn't it make a great quilt?? hm......
